Hosting my own podcast gives me the opportunity to spend time with incredible people. My first guest, Lu Ann Cahn, is such a person. Lu Ann Cahn joined me to share her “Trophy Moment” and how a broken Emmy statue represented the saving of many lives. She shared how she won one of her many Emmys as a journalist, doing a story of her own journey as a breast cancer survivor. I know that recognition is important, sometimes being in the business I take it for granted, Lu Ann renewed, reaffirmed the importance, the symbolism and the lasting effects of this recognition.
For her interview Lu Ann brought the damaged Emmy to me for repair. I asked her why she just didn’t order a new one as a replacement. She then shared how that particular statue, even though it was broken, was a reminder and symbolic of the suitcases of cards and personal notes of gratitude she has received over the years from women who were touched, inspired, and whose lives were saved because of that story. I was inspired by our conversation, and I know you will be as well.
