Why

I don’t know?

NOT a First!

I was asked by my partners this past week about what my future plans were for the business that we owned together. I’m now over 65 and working “on” the business and less “in” the business now. In working on the business, I have given this some thought. But I don’t know currently, which was my response.

I told them what I knew. I knew that I wanted the business that I took nearly 50 years building to survive me. I wanted to take care of them and our staff. I wanted to continue being the brand ambassador for the business, while I was working on the business. I also, wanted more time for me and my family. Something that sometimes was not the case in building the business. I wanted to spend more time with them. I want to travel more, which I have been doing. But is it ok to not know specifically what I want to do with the business that I and my partner’s took over 20 plus years ago???

Yes, it’s completely normal and okay to not know what you want to do with your life or career at certain points. Many people experience uncertainty about their future paths, and it’s a natural part of the journey of self-discovery. There are many factors that can contribute to this uncertainty, including personal interests, passions, skills, societal expectations, and life experiences.

Exploring different interests, gaining new experiences, and reflecting on your values and goals can help you gain clarity over time. It’s also important to remember that career paths are rarely linear, and it’s okay to change direction or pursue multiple interests throughout your life. Embrace the process of discovery and trust that you will find your way in due time. If you’re feeling lost or overwhelmed, consider seeking guidance from mentors, career counselors, or trusted individuals who can offer support and perspective.
