Why

A Leap Year of Firsts x 2

I started out the last leap year in 2020 committed to doing “A Leap Year of Firsts.” Four years later a lot has happened. First, I finished the last leap year by doing something new, a “first,” EVERY DAY of 2020. It became my first book. I became an author for the first time in my life as I wrote and published “A Leap Year of Firsts” at the end of 2021. I continue to pursue firsts to this day, just not every day. I experienced many firsts last week while I was in Antarctica. Some of these firsts are in last week’s post.

As I look forward to the next leap year, I have SO many firsts still left to experience. Will I be able to do my first TEDx Talk, or numerous other firsts, before I’m no longer here? As I was typing this, I received an email letting me know that one of my mentors, Cliff, from years ago, just passed. Hmmmm, you never know when it will be your time.

Yesterday I also received an email from someone I met one time 3 years ago. Part of the message read … “Here I am, 3 years later. I remember our conversation as it was last week and I wanted to reach out to share my gratitude for the time you took out of your busy schedule. Thank you for inspiring me and pushing me to continue to fight for what I wanted when at the time it felt impossible. Telling me your story of purchasing and growing the business with even having doubts of your own but pushing through and making it more successful than it was before you owned it is such an American story and I hope that others see that, and they too want to continue to push themselves.” WOW!

So, as I head out on A Leap Year of Firsts x 2, I thought that these two events from the last few days were important – Pay it Forward!
