Come Fly with me in doing a FIRST!

Two-seat Piper Archer aircraft – Northeast Philadelphia Airport – July 1st, 2020

This is a picture of me from July 1st, 2020. I was about to embark on a first for me, that started my journey of A Leap Year of Firsts – flying a plane. I had committed to doing this in front of a room full of one hundred people on December 5th, 2019 – pre-pandemic. The speaker that day was Lu Ann Cahn, author of I Dare Me . She had dared herself to do something new every day for a year and wrote about it. She was now in front of me speaking on her book and her journey. She had dared the individuals in the room to do the same, to do something that they had always wanted to do but had not done. She had asked us to write it on a piece of paper and share it with our neighbor. She wanted it to be a goal that we committed to. She asked for a show of hands for some of us to share. I was picked and proclaimed to the room that I was going to “fly a plane.” I really was not sure if I believed it at the time that I’d actually accomplish this. I walked out of that room that day with a goal that would be realized less than a year later. It also led me to a unique life changing journey of firsts. It is funny and amazing what one little written goal can lead to.

If you are reading this, I am obviously not standing in front of you in a room as a keynote speaker like LuAnn. But I am going challenge you in a similar fashion to think of something that you have always wanted to do but haven’t for one reason or another – a First. Please get out a pen and a piece of paper and WRITE IT DOWN! Look at it. Commit to it. Start telling others about your goal. Read about how to accomplish it. Get educated on how to do it. Step out of your comfort zone. Send your wish out into the universe so to speak – DO IT and come fly with me today in doing a FIRST!
