This past week was one for the memory books. I had the joy of taking my two grandchildren, Luke (6) and Jack (4), to their very first professional sports games — a Philadelphia Phillies baseball game and a Philadelphia Flyers hockey game. The above picture is of Jack’s hand drawn sign announcing this milestone, which he held up proudly at the game.
Both outings were pure magic. The boys’ eyes lit up as we walked into the stadiums, the roar of the crowd washing over them. At the Phillies game, they clutched their hot dogs and cheered with every crack of the bat. At the Flyers game, they were mesmerized by the speed and energy on the ice. They loved the Phanatic and Gritty appearances and performances. Jack even got too high five the Phanatic.
And here’s the incredible part — both games went beyond regulation. The Phillies battled into extra innings from being down to their last strike, and the Flyers fought through overtime. In the end, both teams pulled off thrilling wins, sending the crowd (and us!) into a frenzy. The kids danced in the aisles and screamed at the top of their lungs. Pure joy!
It wasn’t just about the victories, though. It was about sharing those firsts — the excitement, the laughter, the wide-eyed wonder — with Luke and Jack. These are the moments that turn into lifelong memories, and I’ll treasure them forever.
I’m grateful for every day. Grateful for every FIRST I am able to experience, not only for myself but every First of someone else that I get to share it with! Hopefully you join me on the journey, to find and pursue your love, your firsts, whatever that may be…
