Why

Do we ever stop learning?

Last week was the first week since December 2021, when I started writing this blog, that I did not post. I was learning. I was at the Community College of Philadelphia to celebrate the 10 Year anniversary of the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Business program in Philadelphia. I was invited to spend the day as a GS10KSB Alumni, back together with my cohort to catch up and learn. There were different activities, networking and programs on pricing your product and succession planning. It was great reconnecting with my class in addition to having a chance to meet others from different cohorts. The classes reaffirmed some of the things I was already doing and provided me some new tricks of the trade to consider. I learned and continue to learn at the age of retirement – 65. One of the lessons from my Leap Year of Firsts was that by doing the many things I did and continue to do for the first time in my life – I LEARN!

My intent upon finishing this day of connecting and learning was to bring my laptop with me on my annual golf trip to write my blog. Well, I mistakenly left my laptop home and missed writing my post – a first as noted above. Oh well. I learned to double check for my laptop when traveling.

On a separate side note of firsts, a historic first for our country happened this week. It was the first time in the history of the country that a Speaker of the House of Representatives was ousted. This historic event shows the sad deep divide that currently exists in our country. I hope that we collectively LEARN from this. I hope we learn to find common ground, to listen to other points of views. I hope we learn to respect others. I do not consider myself political. Depending on the issue I could be categorized as either party. I have voted for both at times, depending on the person. I look for people with integrity, vision and leadership abilities with the county’s best interest in mind. As Abraham Lincoln once famously said “a house divided against itself cannot stand.” I hope and pray we learn from history.
