Take me out to the ballgame for a FIRST… @ Wrigley Field

As I stepped into the historic confines of Wrigley Field, a rush of nostalgia and excitement swept over me. My first trip to this iconic ballpark was a long-awaited dream come true, and it happened during my newly minted senior years – a time when I’ve come to appreciate life’s simplest joys even more.

As a lifelong Philadelphia Phillies fan for years, I had watched baseball games on TV, listened to the cheers of the crowd, and admired the timeless beauty of Wrigley Field. But I never thought I’d have the chance to experience it in person, especially as a senior citizen. Life has a way of surprising us, doesn’t it? Here are some of the moments and feelings that made this visit to Wrigley Field truly special:

  1. Living the Dream: I took my seat in one of the seats in the Wrigley Roof Tops overlooking the iconic stadium and pinched myself. It felt like I was living out a childhood dream. The green field, the historic scoreboard, and the ivy-covered walls were all as enchanting as I had imagined.
  2. Timeless Beauty: Wrigley Field’s classic design, charm and vintage atmosphere transported me back in time. I marveled at the fact that this ballpark had seen generations of baseball fans come and go, and now I was a part of that legacy.
  3. Making New Friends: Sporting my Phillies cap and jersey, I struck up conversations with fellow fans, both young and old. It was heartwarming to connect with people from different walks of life, all brought together by our shared love for the game.
  4. The Joy of the Game: Watching the game unfold from the bleachers live was magical. The crack of the bat, the roar of the crowd, and the excitement of every play made me feel like a kid again. I cheered, I clapped, and I couldn’t stop smiling.
  5. Appreciating the Little Things: As a senior citizen, I’ve learned to savor life’s small pleasures. Enjoying a cold brew at Murphy Bleachers Bar pre-game, taking selfies under the iconic Wrigley sign and next to the Harry Carey statue as I took in the sights and sounds in and around the stadium. Partaking in a Brat in the middle of a baseball game with good friends became an unforgettable memory.
  6. Reflecting on Life’s Journey: Being at Wrigley Field allowed me to reflect on the journey of my life. It reminded me that dreams, no matter how big or small, are worth pursuing, and that it’s never too late to cross items off your bucket list.

My first trip to Wrigley Field as a senior citizen was more than just a baseball game; it was a celebration of life, dreams fulfilled, and the enduring beauty of tradition shared with friends. It showed me that age is just a number, and as long as we’re alive, there are always new adventures waiting to be embraced.

So, whether you’re a die-hard baseball fan or simply someone who appreciates life’s precious moments or FIRSTS, I encourage you to chase your dreams, make memories, and pursue and experience FIRSTS, no matter your age. Wrigley Field, with its history and magic, is proof that some firsts or dreams are timeless and worth the wait. A field of dreams!
