A Passing Thought of a Friend…

Sunrise in the Black Hills of South Dakota

My friend Diane passed away this last week while I was away on vacation hiking the Black Hills and the Badlands of South Dakota. Diane had been diagnosed with cancer a few years back. She was told she had months to live. Being a marathoner and Iron Woman she outran her diagnosis by a few years with sheer determination to live her best life. She crammed more life into those years than most people do in a lifetime. She was a true warrior and encouraged so many in so many ways. Diane made it very clear that she wanted no tears when she left this earth and wanted everyone to love somebody.

She was the sunrise that started our day with her words of hope. I said my goodbyes with a few tears as I looked out over the sunrise. I am so fortunate and blessed to have met such an inspirational and courageous person who took all of us on her journey. Diane revealed what it was like “being sick.” She shared so many conversations about living your best life and I know she lived hers. She sprinted through her bucket list (which was some list) like nothing I have ever seen! So today as I remembered Diane, taking in another beautiful sunrise, I try and live my best life! Celebrate life all day….. look for opportunities to do a “first.” Look for opportunities for an act of kindness and love. I am so grateful for having Diane in my life. I know she is flying high now smiling that huge smile and so happy when she sees anyone she loved living their best life. Rest Easy my friend….. you sure earned it. Forever grateful- with much LOVE!
